Our Daily Tread is the “firstborn child” of Aerie River Books.

Our Daily Tread  is a yearlong literary journey across a landscape of profound themes: 

• Live deliberately.
• Live with joy.
• Share what you have - and who you are - with others.

A book of daily quotes, complemented by documentary photography, personal essays and children’s artwork, Our Daily Tread offers "Thoughts for an Inspired Life." Quotes are grouped by month and season according to themes such as reflection, hope, courage, opportunity and gratitude.

Our Daily Tread was created by Dr. Lisa Belisle and friends in honor of the late Hanley Denning, Dr. Belisle's classmate at Bowdoin College. Hanley founded the organization Safe Passage to educate children whose families earn their living picking through trash at the Guatemala City Dump.

Hanley died in a car accident in Guatemala on January 18, 2007: She was 36 years old.

Hanley lived deliberately and with great joy. Throughout her short life, she shared her talents and encouraged others to share theirs. In Safe Passage, she left a legacy that continues to provide opportunities for the poorest of Guatemala ’s children through the power of education.

Safe Passage students, volunteers, and benefactors from around the world provided content and support for Our Daily Tread. 

All proceeds from Our Daily Tread will go to benefit the children of Safe Passage.

Aerie River hopes that Our Daily Tread will help the families of Safe Passage to create joyful and sustainable lives by fostering their own sense of place.
